Section II: Protecting the Wall - I Peter 2:4-5
4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
- What does it mean for you to be a "holy priesthood?"
This passage refers to Christians as the living stones that make up the spiritual house, and the priesthood that ministers within the spiritual house. In the Old Testament, the temple was God's spiritual house; God's presence was manifested in this holy dwelling. During this time, only the high priest could enter the holiest place, and present sacrifices before the Lord. Now that we have God's Holy Spirit living within us, we are God's spiritual house; we carry God's presence wherever we go! And now that we have Jesus Christ as our Savior, and Mediator, we don't need a priest to act on our behalf. We are the ones that minister before the Lord, and to others on behalf of the Lord. As Christians, we have the treasure of God, and the ministry of God, because we have God's Holy Spirit within us.
