Section III: Gathering the Troops
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! 38 See, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
- What did Jesus long to do with the people of Jerusalem?
- What do you think He longs to do with us when we are broken, desolate, and in despair?
Like a mother hen gathers her baby chicks under her wings, Jesus longed to gather the people of Jerusalem. If the people of Jerusalem were willing, he would have brought them close to himself, been their shelter, and their covering. I think Jesus longs to do the same for us today. When we're broken, and in despair, we can be destructive to ourselves, and others, just like the Israelites were in Jesus' day. Instead, Jesus wants to draw us to himself, and protect us in our time of need.
