Drawing Near to God Expanding to North Mount Pleasant

December 11, 2017

MT. PLEASANT, SC – Drawing Near to God Ministry, a non-profit, Christian women’s ministry based in Mt. Pleasant, is expanding their weekly Teaching and Worship Experience to be offered on two days in the Lowcountry area, in West Ashley and north Mount Pleasant. For the past thirteen years, the program has met on Thursday mornings but is now expanding to be offered on Wednesday mornings as well, as Saint Peter’s Church in Mount Pleasant is hosting the experience beginning January 10th.

Drawing Near to God launched as a community-wide Bible study in 2000, with 30 women gathering at St. Andrew’s Church in the Old Village. It has since developed into an international nonprofit ministry that has reached thousands of women through livestreaming, radio, television, CDs and DVDs, study guides, online teachings, blogging and social media. Still, the ministry continues offering a community-wide Bible study, which is now called the Teaching and Worship Experience.

The Teaching and Worship Experience is a weekly immersion into the Bible, where Joanne Ellison challenges women to declutter their lives and make space for God. It offers women an opportunity to participate in an intimate small group study, an uplifting praise and worship experience and then a “deep dive” into scripture with Joanne. Joanne’s true passion for the Bible makes her an engaging speaker, who expresses both vulnerability and humor in her teachings.
In January, Ellison will be teaching a study on Ephesians, based on a guide written by John Stott. In addition to the Wednesday morning experience at Saint Peter’s from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, women can also join on Thursdays from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at Ashley River Baptist in West Ashley beginning January 4th. Those who cannot join at those times can participate via streaming at the best time for their schedules or even start a community group to watch streaming together.

In addition to over 20 Bible studies, Ellison has written two devotionals, Drawing Near to God and Sitting at His Feet, and her most recent book, Tell Your Heart to Beat Again. Ellison can also be heard locally on WJNI Radio and HIS Radio, which both air her inspirational spots and teachings regularly. She has also had appearances on Make Your Day Count, a Christian television program, and has been syndicated by Fox News as well as the Christian Broadcast Network. Ellison’s vision is to help women make space for God so that they will not be overwhelmed with life.
